Pokey and the Rooster

Description
Rooster is bored. There just has to be something more exciting beyond the big barnyard gate and he wants to see it. His best friend, a horse named Pokey, thinks he is crazy. Finally Rooster talks Pokey into going with him. As they sneak through the gate both Pokey and Rooster are excited and a little bit scared. What is out there? How safe is it? Is this a big mistake...

Author
Sandra Helsel (Ames) grew up in the northern part of lower Michigan. It was there that she raised her four sons. This book came about as she stood with the owner of the “real” Pokey and rooster, watching the animals in the yard. Suddenly, both Pokey and the rooster glanced up with a look of mischief in their eyes, and the following make-believe adventure was born.

Illustrator, Joe Snyder, nephew of Sandra and gifted artist, hasn’t put his pencil down since rendering this book.
